▸ quill's photo will feature him with a very large and fetching stab wound through his torso. he will find himself dealing with a wound located in the same place, although it starts off relatively minor before progressing to 'oh shit' levels of injury. in tandem, he'll grow progressively weaker/paler/etc.
▸ psychologically speaking, it will absolutely fuck with him, but he's v. unlikely to talk about it outside of in the most glib and flippant manner.
▸ quill will totes set up shop in a furniture store/department of a ... department store wrt dealing with the question of 'where to sleep', so if anyone wants to shitpost in a furniture store 👌

Alec is going to be get stuck in the mall for at least the majority of the event! He definitely won't be excited about the picture, but after being extremely paranoid about the blood door situation and absolutely nothing actually happening, he'll take one pretty early on just so he doesn't have to hang out in a mall longer than absolutely necessary.

Unfortunately, Alec's photo is going to have an ominous cloud of black smoke behind him. Exciting news: that's a demon! And it's stalking Alec. His weapons are no longer imbued with any kind of angelic power so he can't actually harm it.

On the last day of the event when he's at his most worn down and exhausted, it will finally catch him slipping and possess him. While possessed, Alec's eyes will turn completely black, and he will hunt any character he comes into contact with through the mall with his bow and arrows, a sword, and whatever cutlery he knicks from Kitch'n Wares while sleep deprived. He's going to have zero control over his own body for the duration of the possession, and be extremely hostile on sight. The demon's goal is to tear someone's heart out of their chest with his bare hands, but luckily the demon is also a big weenie that doesn't like pain so it can be fought off or escaped from. Warning that Alec is a very skilled fighter with melee weapons, slightly less skilled with hand-to-hand, and basically the tv/movie-archers-never-miss trope with his bow, so maybe priorities disarming him. Possession will end if anyone gets a good stab in on him (even in non-lethal areas) as the demon will immediately ditch his body: please let me know if interested in being the one to do this! Also please someone help him seek medical attention after, because oof.

He will remember literally nothing that happened while he was possessed, but somehow feel incredibly bad about all of it anyway. Womp womp.

Otherwise for the majority of the event he'll be running around being paranoid about whisps of smoke or dark corners.

Happy to volunteer to have Wren (lightly) stab him. They're also trained in combat and are more about subduing than actually harming so even without their own powers they're not helpless. That said they're also more likely to be understanding about the "Ok I can't remember what I did?" part (or at least bottle down any anger that might come from that which is far worse in the long run) so totally get if you'd rather have more crunchy drama about it.

Look, their ex girlfriend was stalked by a demon. They get it.

No the low drama approach works for me, I'd love Wren to stop him!! He's not getting any physical enhancements from the demon or anything, so it should be a pretty fair fight between them.

Plus this way he'd know they're a good fighter and maybe approach them for sparring later if you'd be interested in that!

Wren is going to try to pedantically argue their way out of the mall without a photo of a person first - to no avail, but at least no repercussions for being argumentative aside from some shoved down anger on their part womp womp. Since they already established with the blood door thing that doing what's asked will get them out as promised and there's actually food available at the mall so they don't have to worry about starving, they're more willing to try to wait it out or find another exit so they'll likely be in the mall for at least a day or more.

That said aside from food they'll be trying to avoid messing with the mall while they're in it, including taking anything else. Because Stealing Is Wrong.

Anyway I'm still trying to brainstorm a picture effect to go with for them. I might to with the example of wounds or other injury if I can't think of something better.

I feel like this is a great event for a character like Hop. He is the kind of guy that wants to know more about what’s going on, so I’d like to have him involved.

Nothing is particularly jumping out in my mind as something I want to do, but since *everyone* doesn’t need to top level, I’ll be sending him out to other people’s threads. So if you’d like to have Hopper answer your thread — if you kindly let me know here — I’ll send him.

Most people he’d be probably meeting for the first time unless we’ve done a thread or if your character is an Stranger Things muse.

MAN I was tempted to try going full Tomie portrait but that is much too far and too gross for event number one. Maybe someday.

Anyway, Fukawa is going to be on maximum suspicion. Being locked up with strangers and given an ultimatum to escape is hits too close to home for comfort, so she'll wait around to see how other people's photos turn out before conceding to take her own. If you want someone to witness your character having after-effects and freak out with you, she's your gal.

I'll leave whether or not she takes a picture up to fate, she'll probably shelter in the mall somewhere like a coward and refuse to comply. At least for a while. If she does take a picture, it's going to appear to be a funeral portrait, ribbons and bloody X through her face and all. It will rattle her deeply, as such portraits appeared every time someone died in the Killing Game she was forced to partake in.

After that she'll have no outward wounds, but will feel the death blows that killed her former classmates at random and without warning. So if you want to see someone suddenly losing their shit for no reason, hit me up!

so how would you feel about fukawa getting transported to a murder basement! as his photo effects 'develop' vasiliy will eventually step into a section of a store and walk right into an execution chamber again, so if she's there with him she'll have a chance to see the same person who seemed very calm and collected in their first thread utterly paralyzed with fear over a seemingly ordinary, nondescript basement.

vasiliy's going to be similarly not at all thrilled about having to be this exposed - maybe at some point she realizes he has a gun and sticks around him or something for safety?

either way i def want something with these two for event stuff!!

OH YES PLEASE!! I adore this entire concept, especially with reversing the dynamic of their initial thread. The gun will likely be both a source of fear and security, but it would for sure mark him as someone to stick close by if there's a threat around.

I'll probably throw up a TL tomorrow, but if you beat me to the punch I'll tag into yours? I'm flexible either way!

vasiliy's going to be veeeery resistant to taking the photo and will probably try to hold off as long as possible in the hopes that things will resolve themselves if he waits long enough. obviously that's not going to happen, so eventually he'll give up and take the photo while preparing for the worst.

the photo. he's going to be unharmed in the photo, but the backdrop will be a seemingly generic basement instead of whatever he was standing in front of. to vasiliy, however, it's intimately familiar: one of the plain execution cells of the lubyanka. he's going to start by hallucinating smells—mildew and however one can best describe the smell of Basement—followed by noticing that the sounds immediately surrounding him have an echo to them that implies a much harder/smoother floor and confined space. he'll be on edge from this to begin with, but eventually he's going to enter a section of one of the stores and step into the same room from the picture. i'd like to play this with one other character being in the room as well but not knowing it's anything other than a regular, slightly grungy basement and not getting why he's absolutely paralyzed with fear. the character who's with him will feel a few moments of crushing horror and despair along with him, and then it'll abate with no warning.

around the mall. vasiliy hates, hates feeling exposed in any way. he's spent the past 3 years in a constant state of looking over his shoulder and sleeps with a gun within reach because of having had the experience of officers pounding on his door in the middle of the night and dragging him off to be arrested (and later shot), so having to eventually sleep in the open in the presence of many other people is going to freak him the fuck out. i plan on having him set up base camp in a dressing room stall, but not without getting some bedding from the home goods place and some basic essentials. dressing room stall neighbors, wya!! i'm also just excited to write him trying to act like a normal regular guy while trapped in a mall in the 80s.

aftermath. when he sees that tons of people are hurt vasiliy's going to set up shop in one of the mall kiosks and offer his services as an EMT with what he's able to find around the mall. very much here for him patching people up, offering emergency aid, etc. also, he carries a piece 24/7, so if anyone's looking for intervention in a manifested nightmare creature situation, he's your guy!

So Ed's photo is going to show him with fog leaking from his mouth. What this will mean for Ed in reality is that everytime he speaks, fog pours from his mouth. It feels incredibly strange for Ed, but the real kicker is how it's hard for anyone else who inhales the fog to breathe.

After some initial confusion, Ed will be doing his best to avoid people, and the fog dissipates when it gets a short ways from Ed,so it's easy to avoid if you don't want to interact with it!

Look, if 98% of this experience is terrible, he'll make damn sure to make the most out of the other 2%. There is a lot of stuff here he had to give up on living in another galaxy and it just shows up? Star Trek replicator style? And it's free? Yeah. That's where you'll find him.

He'll also raid the electronics store, try to take apart the cameras and to McGyver something to help him figure out what's going on - something to scan the cameras with, something to scan affected people with, something that would take him ten minutes to put together in Pegasus. It's a waste of time and won't work, of course. Home rules do not apply. He won't like that.

As for the picture, it's going to show him as a de-aged awkward teenage version of himself. Question pending whether that will include temporary memory loss. He won't like that either.

He'll probably spend the entirety of the event at the mall and I'm open to having him try to run improvised experiments on affected characters or ask insensitive questions about their condition!
